HYCU SCOM Management Pack for Nutanix provides extensive monitoring of the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform with System Center Operations Manager (SCOM).
It covers the compute, storage, virtualization and, with our latest release, the networking layer.
Nutanix clusters are resilient to different kinds of malfunctions including network problems, however cluster performance might get degraded if the extent of failures is such that more nodes are impacted. In this case, users of applications running in Nutanix clusters will notice slower application response and possibly even experience applications being non-operational. Network problems affect a cluster’s ability to service I/O requests which has a direct impact on the performance. Because of this, it is of great importance to actively monitor the network layer. It gives you the ability to address network issues before any users get severely affected.
There can be a multitude of reasons for problems related to networking which usually result in dropped packets in the network interface controllers (NICs). Most common reasons are failing NICs or cables or switches that need to be replaced. An excessive number of dropped packets can also indicate that the NIC is no longer capable of handling the network traffic load.
HYCU SCOM Management Pack for Nutanix now helps to eliminate issues that are created by alerting users to any of the following issues:
- The NIC link is down (disconnection of NIC from the switch, failure of the switch port).
- NIC is flapping (physical network component failure: switch, cable, NIC).
- There are NIC dropped packets (low buffer, burst network traffic, NIC failure).
- There are NIC erroneous packets (failure of NIC, switch, or cable).
For real-time insight into health and performance of NICs, with the new release, we have created a dashboard showing NIC traffic.
