HYCU is excited to unveil its latest capability in the R-Cloud™ Platform designed to enhance the management and mobility of SQL databases across cloud environments. This feature allows for the creation of transactionally consistent backups of MS SQL Server databases running in Amazon EC2 and Google Compute Engine (GCE).
Seamless Database Discovery and Cataloging
One of the standout aspects of this feature is HYCU’s patented agentless application discovery. Once you register a service account with necessary database permissions to an EC2 or GCE, it is practically a zero-touch experience. HYCU R-Cloud automatically discovers and catalogs databases, ensuring that all SQL instances are accounted for. Once Instances are discovered, HYCU R-Cloud can create application-consistent snapshots and record the necessary database configurations and metadata to enable more advanced recoveries.
Granular and Point-in-Time Recovery
HYCU R-Cloud's application-aware backups offer granular and point-in-time log replay recoveries for databases. This allows users to restore their databases to a specific point in time, minimizing data loss and ensuring business continuity. Whether recovering a full instance or selective databases, HYCU R-Cloud provides the flexibility needed to meet diverse recovery scenarios.
Unprecedented Cross-Cloud Database Mobility
HYCU R-Cloud enables the recovery of selective databases to an alternate SQL instance running in the same or different cloud. This cross-cloud database mobility ensures businesses can maintain operational flexibility and resilience, regardless of their cloud infrastructure.
Getting Started:
Step 1: Assign service account credentials to an EC2/GCE instance to perform application discovery. All supported SQL instances discovered will be listed in the Applications section of our UI. HYCU also supports DB authentication in addition to service accounts.
Step 2: Assign a policy that best meets your database RPOs and RTOs. The Application policies will automatically apply to the EC2/GCE instance as well, since the underlying mechanism still snapshots the whole EC2/GCE instance. A backup is automatically kicked off in compliance with the policy. HYCU’s agentless app discovery mechanism will catalog all necessary information and data to enable advanced recoveries. Task Report contains more details on the activities performed.
Step 3: Explore Recovery Options from any of the recovery points. In the restore dialog, you can now select individual databases for recovery, target instance and options to overwrite the DB, leave the DB in standby mode and to restore to a specific point time.
Conclusion
HYCU R-Cloud's new application-aware backups for SQL databases go past the traditional crash-consistent and app-consistent snapshots with limited utility and flexibility. By enabling cross-cloud and cross-server mobility, seamless database discovery, and granular recovery options, the new feature empowers customers to protect their critical data and ensure uninterrupted operations.
