Since its inception in 1982, Callaway and its portfolio of global brands have become one of the most iconic and recognized names in all of golf. Through its unwavering commitment to innovation and technological advances, they continue to solidify its place atop the leaderboard with a dynamic portfolio of golf equipment, golf apparel, and golf entertainment both on and off the course.

For more than 40 years, Callaway has been at the forefront of club technology and their mission has endured; “we passionately pursue advanced, innovative technologies that help golfers of all abilities find more enjoyment from the game.

Increasingly complex IT environments and the evolving threat of ransomware and other disaster recovery (DR) scenarios have changed the data protection landscape. The global workforce is seeing monumental shifts in technological advances that IT leaders will need to adopt to be successful in modernizing their global IT infrastructure.

Callaway experienced this first-hand. With a shortage of staff and limited resources across ten global IT datacenters and the inability to manage their current backup infrastructure, Callaway became overwhelmingly concerned about their ability to backup and restore their data. Those concerns became circumstantial when one of their datacenters narrowly escaped a fire causing them to take a deeper dive into what their current disaster recovery policies looked like and what infrastructure updates needed to happen to ensure their data was safe and protected.

Keith Motter, Sr. Systems Engineer, and his team at Callaway, concluded that there was a need to move fast in finding a new backup solution to address any future concerns.

“We needed a modern infrastructure that could give us a competitive advantage with a reduction in operations and reduce our total cost of ownership,” said Motter. “But more importantly, we needed a solution with a quick learning curve and easy operation.”

HYCU R-Cloud, Data Protection (including backup), and Disaster Recovery is Simplified

Migrating off their on-premises infrastructure, and with Nutanix running across all data center environments, HYCU for Azure was chosen as the preferred multi-cloud data protection and backup as a service solution.

“With offsite resources being so limited and the IT workforce down, HYCU was easy to use, easy to implement, and ready to deploy within a week or two,” added Motter.

What’s Next?

Motter is confident in Callaway’s decision to implement HYCU. “Within a few months, we are 95% fully implemented across all physical data center locations.” Due to the work done to date, the Callaway IT team has been reaping the benefits of the HYCU R-Cloud platform.
